We are SO excited to be featuring Albert Owens, also known as “Bucified Bert” in our blog this month, as he has won the award of “Best Local Hero” in The Cabbies! Through August and September, the community was able to nominate their favorites in the 8 different categories and then go on to vote for the winners! The Cabbies are a nomination and award system for local businesses and people in the Tampa Bay and Central Florida area.
Bucified Bert has been volunteering since 1984 when he was in college. He started tutoring hearing and impaired students, which is where his passion began! “My mother helped me understand, what character meant, possessing ethical and spiritual beliefs and using them consistently in my life were the high standards Emma Lee The Legend, set for my future. My inspiration is the love, that I have for my community,” said Albert. Bucified Bert is a community-minded character whose goal is to entertain our youth while helping them to build a strong moral fiber. Bucified promotes personal growth and cognizance of one`s surroundings in ways traditional lectures do not have the life lessons-lessons learned to communicate.
“Using the Bucified acronym, that stands for Be Understanding Citizens Identify Friendly Individuals Each Day Because a Stranger can be Danger. It’s based on life lesson-lessons, learned growing up, joining the military, and college, combined with over 30 years, at a television station, meeting and talking to many experts, in various areas of life,” stated Albert.
Bucified Bert’s goal is to influence students to focus on careers early, to show them that their studies, even in elementary, have an effect on their success in their adult lives. He tries and shows them a bright future, navigating around obstacles, that can be harmful to a dream.
When asked what he enjoys most about serving our community is, Albert answered with a heart full of gratitude & pride. “I get a chance to see what motivates others, meaning I like finding out the WHY, in people reason a passion for serving in the community. I learn so much, when my passion, meets someone else why is just a passion for their community work,” said Albert humbly.
“What Does Winning the Cabbies Mean to You?”
“I am very honored, and humbled by this recognition! Thrilled and shocked, to be named Cabbies Best Local Hero 2021…I had no clue, of how many people were voting, Plus the person who nominated me, Julie. I am so blessed to have worked with her, for many years, at WFLA TV! She knows both Albert & Bucified. So yeah, to be nominated by her, means that she has been paying attention, to what I love doing in honor of my mother`s legacy, for the next generation. So yes, I wanted to WIN the Cabbies, because Julie is so cool, and smart. I am so honored, to call her my friend! Who for her to pick Bucified, surprised me, especially when I saw the other nominees. So, I had to work hard, on getting my votes, and this victory, the same year, we won the historic Super Bowl LV. Plus Back-to-Back Stanley Cups, for the Tampa Bay Lighting. Thank you to The Cabbies I will use this accomplishment to impact more lives in the community, Thank You So Much,” stated Albert.
