Since 1997, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Florida Properties Group has been partnered with the Sunshine Kids Foundation. We started volunteering and helping plan their annual Fun-N-Sun trip with the foundation which first started in Tampa, Florida. After a few years of exploring Tampa, it was decided to move the annual trip to Orlando so that kids could experience the Happiest Place on Earth, Disney!

The Fun-N-Sun trip is a week filled with jam-packed events, exploring theme parks, and allowing these kids to do what they do best… be kids! Most of the Sunshine Kids are in the middle of chemotherapy or undergoing some kind of treatment if they aren’t during that time… they have before. As the week goes on you see the relationships flourish between these kids, it’s such an amazing thing to watch. The most common thing we hear from kids and what they get out of these trips isn’t just the theme parks and unlimited fun, but the connections they make with kids who are going through the same thing that they are. Most kids they are around on a daily basis have NO idea what they are going through, so being able to meet other kids that can relate is a great coping mechanism.

During the week-long trip, our agents and staff volunteer daily to spend time with the children and get to know them a bit! Prior to the trip, our company raises money to put together goodie bags for each of the children that they can use during their trip to Orlando. It truly is an experience of a lifetime volunteering with these inspiring kids, we wouldn’t trade being partnered with the Sunshine Kids Foundation for the world!
